If you are driving from Edinburgh to Isle of Skye, I would recommend driving via Stirling, following A82 through Loch Lomond, toward Glencoe. This is because there are many well arranged resorts and visitor centers for hikers. The scenery becomes even more breathtaking when getting closer to Glencoe.
I would highly recommend looking up the west highland way route and pick some short hikes from it.
A special tip for the best highland scenery you get to enjoy with 0 hiking effort is to take train from Fort William back to Glasglow. This line will take you to one of Europe’s last wilderness via “GREAT MOOR OF RANNOCH”. This line goes through highland plateau that has no car road. You will be able to see the most natural Scottish scenery with lots of wild animals.
Some fun facts about Scottish terrain terms:
- A munro is a Scottish mountain with an elevation of more than 3,000 feet / 914 metres).
- A glen is a valley.
- A ben is a mountain.
